Neerim South is a small rural town with a population of approximately 500 people. The town serves the Neerim District with additional towns and settlements of, Crossover Neerim, Neerim North, Neerim East, Neerim Junction, and Nayook. This area also forms part of the West Gippsland and Gippsland region in Eastern Victoria.

The town is 120 km drive east of Melbourne and 18 km north of Warragul. Further north is the township of Noojee and alpine resort of Mt Baw Baw

Neerim South is also on the West Gipplsand Gourmet Deli Trail, north of the Princess Highway.
