Major Fires
Mt Dandenong Fires (1997)
The Brigade's tanker and a crew was sent to the fires as part of "Strike Team's" from the West Gippsland Group and helped fight the fire in the Sassafras area. The Tanker stayed in the area for two days with relief crews changing over at the fire.
New South Wales Fires (1994)
Some Members of the Brigade travelled to crew fire appliances that were sent from Victoria to the New South Wales fires. The Brigade members were flown to Sydney and RAAF Williamtown, to crew appliances for six days in the Singleton and latter Gloster areas before being brought back to RAAF Richmond for the return flight back to Melbourne.
"Ash Wednesday" Fires (1983)
Several members of the Brigade were involved in the fires following the "Ash Wednesday" fires. This included members on strike teams in the area north of Noojee in the days after "Ash Wednesday".
Neerim East Hall
The original Neerim East Hall was destroyed by fire, with the current Hall built on the same site. The cause of the fire is unknown
Neerim Junction Hall
The old Neerim Junction Hall was an old weatherboard structure that stood on the same site as the new hall. The fire when it started quickly involved the entire building and threatened the neighbouring house. Water supplies were limited in the town and the Brigades involved had to cart water from a nearby dam. The paint on the house next door was scorched during the blaze, but was saved by protective spray from the firefighting crew.
Neerim South Presbyterian Church
The Church fire started in the early hours of the morning, under suspicious circumstance. When the Brigade arrived on the scene the building was totally involved. It was believed at the time the fire was deliberately lit, as items from the church were found outside the building, including the church bible, which was found in the branches of a tree outside.
Neerim South Catholic Church
The fire in the Church was believed to have started from an electrical fault, the fire gutted the old weatherboard building before being brought under control and prevented from spreading to the neighbouring residence. The building was latter demolished and a new Church was built on the same site.
Kings Arms Hotel
The fire in the hotel was believed to have started in the laundry from an electrical fault in the hot water service, the Brigade received the call at 11:15 pm. and positioned the Tanker at the rear of the building just as the fire had spread to the roof. Once in the roof the fire spread quickly to the rest of the building, and the building was quickly fully involved. The Brigades main concern then was to prevent the fire spreading to neighbouring buildings, the Tanker was repositioned to the front of the building on the Main road and set up hose lines to do this. Yarragon Grain Store was in extreme danger of becoming involved, as the heat from the fire burnt the paint from the Grain Store wall. The fire required the assistance of several neighbouring Fire Brigades.
Neerim District Football Clubrooms
A fault in the changing rooms sauna is believed to have started the fire which partly destroyed the Clubroom facility. The fire quickly spread to the upstairs to the clubroom and kitchen area. The distance from the water main made the fire fight difficult, the visitors changerooms and the kiosk was the only part of the facility saved.
