The Glenrowan Rural
Fire Brigade or as it was then known , Glenrowan and Eleven Mile creek Bush Fire Brigade
was formed to the best of our knowledge around early 1930's . The first Captain was.
Unfortunately official records only date back to 1945 . We will update this page as
further information comes to hand .
13th October 1945 --------------------------- It is obvious that the
Glenrowan & Eleven Mile Creek Bush Fire Brigade had been formed for some time now. A
note from the secretary R.W.Pearce on the above date asks for the records to be altered to
call the brigade " Glenrowan Rural Fire Brigade . The official reply came on 15/10/45
.
October 1946 ------------------- Purchase of 120 gallon tank , low
down pump , hose and fittings .
November 1946 ---------------------- Purchase of 40 feet of half
inch rubber delivery hose (equivilent to todays garden hose)
May 1947 -------------- Purchase of one inch centrifugal pump .
Repairs to Fire Brigade Truck .
December 1947 ---------------------- V8 - Ford Blitz came into
service .
December 1948 ---------------------- Quench Quick power unit
purchased (- presumably a pump-)
January 1949 ------------------- Ford truck registered - No. JC 492
November 1955 ---------------------- W.Richardson general carrier to
Wangaratta was contracted to transport a rural building to Glenrowan from A.J.Anderson
Depot Darebin Rd. Northcote . It was to be collected on 23/11/55 at 10.30 am .
December 1995 ---------------------- Authorisation from R.O. J.Brock
for Glenrowan Rural Fire Brigade to purchase materials not exceeding the value of forty
pounds to erect the building at Glenrowan .
February 1957 -------------------- Mention of Austin truck needing a
new battery .
May 1964 -------------- A Anderson of Langtree Ave. Wangaratta was
contracted to install electrical installations to the Glenrowan Fire Shed .
October 1966 ------------------- Nine and a half cubic yards of
concrete was ordered from Glenmix Pty. Ltd. to construct the floor of the Glenrowan fire
shed.
September 1969 ----------------------- Austin truck at this time was
Reg.No. HOV 315 and appears to be a series 2 Austin .
Sometime 1970's ------------------------ The Austin truck was
replaced by an International D1410 (4x4)
January 1972 ------------------- Purchase of 60 feet of 1"
delivery hose .
October 1974 ------------------- A letter requesting the
installation of an F.R.S. type 2 at Glenrowan was sent to The Manager , Country Region ,
Royal Mail House , 255 Burke St. Melbourne .
16th December 1981 ----------------------------- Official hand-over
of new Acco 3.4 tanker at Glenrowan Primary school.
Sometime 1986 ---------------------- Region 23 Rural Fire Brigade
Championships were held at the Glenrowan Recreation Reserve .
May 1987 -------------- Official hand-over of the Hino 3.4D tanker .
October 1981 ------------------- Contact for erection of a Type 1B
Fire Station at Glenrowan was awarded to Yackandandah Engineering at a cost of nearly $
60,000 .
