OUTCOMES: NATIONALISM Nationalism is a complex matter. In a way, Federation was an outcome of nationalism, not the other way around. Some nationalists may have thought that becoming federated would make Australians feel more patriotic, more 'Australian', and perhaps, at sporting events, to take an obvious example, we take pride in being 'Australian'. But neither Federation nor pride in national achievements has swept away all of our regional differences consider the rivalries that still exist today between State and State. |
