The Contemporary Art Society of Victoria is an incorporated non-profit society and was established in 1938. The Society has been a constant in the art world of Melbourne over the decades, and has supported many local artists in their formative years and in their ongoing careers.
Over all those years, CAS Inc. has continued to be run by volunteers on modest funds from annual membership/exhibition fees, plus a few additional dollars raised by individual committee members.
Nevertheless, the current Committee of the Society felt the time had come for CAS Inc. to secure and perhaps extend the role of the Society in the local visual arts community - especially to create a way forward to provide ongoing funding for exhibition opportunities for Australian artists, without the need to rely solely on direct annual contributions from CAS Inc. members/exhibitors (as provided by the CAS Inc. Constitution.)
Therefore, at the 1999-2000 A.G.M., a proposal was raised and passed specifically to change the Society's Constitution to provide for the establishment of a specific "fund" - with the dual aims of strengthening the Society's financial independence and of laying a solid financial foundation for the Society's activities into the future. Thus, the "Contemporary Art Society of Victoria Incorporated Future Fund" or "Future Fund" for short, was formed.
Money currently raised through our fund-raising activities such as raffles, dinners, sales commissions and donations is to be invested in the Future Fund in order to provide the Society with additional annual income to be used (as ensured by the Society's Constitution) as follows...
If you are considering making a modest donation to help the Society and would like further information about The Contemporary Art Society's Future Fund, please contact us. Your donation to the Fund will go towards helping local artists over the years, rather than simply being 'one-off' support.
