DOROTHY SHERLOCK

I began my study in 1975 with Delphine Petersen studying Tonal Art in oil paint. Delphine groomed me to take my place at the Ron Crawford School of Painting where I studied for four years. During this time I was also studying Fine Art drawing with Ken Smith and convened the Portrait class at the Mentone & Mordialloc Art Group. This was a regular duty that I performed for six and a half years giving me a great deal of satisfaction. I then went on to study portraiture and life drawing with Palma Kali-Nagy and Margaret Cilento respectively &endash; also Pastel painting from Janet Hayes.

During this period of study I sold some of my works both Interstate and Overseas to hang in private collections. My work has received recognition gaining awards in local exhibitions. In 1990 I was invited to study with Gunnar Neeme. During this period of time I won the Rita Doherty Acquisitive Award &endash; Spring Exhibition Mentone 1993. My work was also accepted to hang in the Alice Bale Art Award Caulfield Arts Complex City of Melbourne and "Two States of the Art" &endash; Seymour Theatre Complex University of Sydney (1993 &endash; 1994).

In late 1993 I also completed a Master Mosaic Workshop conducted through R.M.I.T. International Specialised skills. This precipitated my work being exhibited Tolarno Gallery St.Kilda December 1993 &endash; January 1994.

Exhibitions:

On moving away from the city I now live on an harmonious Island with many beautiful birds and continue to paint and exhibit from my "Windsong Studio Gallery".
