I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of South Africa in 1980. Since then I have travelled and exhibited widely in South Africa and in Australia, where we moved to in 1993. Flowers have a great relevance in my life and in my travels through various countries the visual constant for me has been the study and representation of flowers in my paintings.
It is not my intention to present a precise and accurate image of flowers. My paintings should interact with the viewer on an emotional level first, rather than a pictorial one.
Flowers represent an infinite, universal source of subject matter, each season bringing fresh images vibrating with glorious colours. I apply the paint spontaneously, describing the diffuse masses of the various flowers, juxtaposing dashes of complimentary colours to activate and intensify their values.
