ARTIST STATEMENT

"Creating art is where my heart is, to paint and to sculpt. My work, I believe, depicts the sense of freedom I gain from being immersed in this world.

Inspiration comes from life, anything living, especially plants, but also water, the sight and sound of it....I find I am very drawn to water, I find it stimulating as well as relaxing, it's like music, good for the soul. I find I have to be in a state of peace and calm in order to design, and once I have the design, I am stimulated then because I can't wait to start on its creation.

My work is in Limestone, and the stone comes from Mt. Gambier in South Australia. It is a natural fossil stone that is sometimes used in the construction of houses. I first saw the use of it as a sculpturai medium at a demonstration given by Mr. Kevin Free at the Ballarat University.

It is good to be able to view the sculpture in the round and it should be interesting from every position, I work hard with the aim to achieve this outcome. My sculptures, though abstract. have a strong connection with the environment. Their free-flowing form complements nature, and the white stone and shadows contrasts well with nature's greenery."
