Artist's statement
This third incarnation of my art work is the one I have felt comfortable to show the outside world. Past lives of my work have been joyful, stressful learning experiences. I have held them close however, using them as tools to craft something new. with trepidation I show a "product" I feel is an achievement I worthy of others viewing.
That product, my work, embodies elements extracted from everywhere, but without detracting from anywhere. These elements are: line, colour, texture, emotion, creativity, the past, the present and the future. For me, all these elements converge on a canvas to give a twinge of excitement that lets me know I am enjoying my work. If a viewer felt that twinge, I would be overjoyed. It would be touching for viewers to simply feel one of those elements. To me this would be a measure of success of sorts.
I bring very ordinary things to a canvas - things which relate to my life. Home, children, community. I see however that the life of every person can stretch from ordinary to extra ordinary on any day. I believe useful insight lags in recognising this, consolidating on its opportunity and using it to our greatest advantage. My endeavour is to use this spectrum - from ordinary to extra ordinary - creatively. I aim to draw the energy, beauty, prospect and respect I witness into one place - a painting.
I then invite viewers of any artwork to open their mind and soul and take advantage of the experience offered to by them by the artist.
My "other life', wherein reside my family and "other" (community services/ business management) work all influence my "creative life", affecting the development and presentation of my work. My creative training has been more informal than formal. I have exhibited on a minor scale, but am now more focused and certain about what I must achieve.
