Found in Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia.
Forms dense colonies preferring a boggy soil, tolerating inundation for some time.
Entire plant is yellowish-green turning black with age.
Leaves are about 9cm long splitting open to allow a stem of (5-15cm high) tiny flowers in a dense spike to grow.
