Juncus spp. - Rush
Juncaceae

Australian Juncus species are commonly found in moist areas and along creeks and rivers.  Many have adapted to growing in  ephemeral wetlands or even in saline conditions.
Leaves are always shiny but can be flat or round, with or without pith, and in some cases reduced to a basal sheath.
Flowers appear usually from one side of the stem but in a variety of styles and seed is plentiful.  Juncus can be readily grown from seed or by division.
An extremely useful plant for stabilizing sloping banks.
Species can be difficult to identify as colour,  size, density, and flower all have to be considered.
Common are:         Juncus amabilis
                             Juncus gregiflorus
                             Juncus pallidus
                             Juncus pauciflorus
