Acacia melanoxylon - Blackwood

Indigenous to Victoria Qld NSW Tas and SA.  A long lived upright tree (5-30m) capable of withstanding periods of drought.  Phyllodes are dull green and variable.  Flowers are small racemes of cream balls in winter through spring followed by curving pods which split open to shed the seed.  Propagation is by seed.
Blackwood is an excellent timber used in furniture making: in the past the aborigines used it for weapons.
