Students and teachers from CARWP are now using the internet in their regular learning, and have found lots of places online to learn interesting and useful things.

Here are some links to online learning that you might find useful. As we continue to develop our own materials, we will list them here. Some are just a page and some are full courses.

  • Learning Web Form Controls
    Web forms are common ways for people to get information from you, but you have to know how to use them. This page shows you have to use text boxes, pop-down menus and other common web page controls.
  • Learn to Chat

  • You've heard about chatting but you're not sure how to start. Come here for help and a quiet place to learn the basics.

    You've done the basics (Learn to Chat) and now you're ready to talk to people from all over the world!

  • Searching Tips

  • Want some straight-forward tips on how to search better? This explains some simple ideas that will make it easier for you.

ESL and Adult Literacy on other sites

  • TAFE Virtual Campus

  • TAFE has a site with many different courses, some free and some you have to pay for. This link goes to the front page. From there you can do a few different things.
    • Take a tour (you need to have a plugin called Shockwave on your computer. If ithe link works, you already have it.)
    • Visit the Virtual Campus lets you see what different providers are offering through the Virtual Campus.
  • Dream Holiday

  • This unit is for intermediate level ESL or adult literacy students. There are web research and language activities, and students learn how to plan their own dream holiday. This is also offered at the TAFEVC.
  • CGEA Numeracy

  • This is a TAFEVC course, but you can get to it without actually being enrolled. It covers parts of the CGEA Numeracy curriculum with assessment tasks.

Assorted Online Tutorials

  • Learn the Web 

  • This is a great, very thorough tutorial where you can learn things that you don't even know to ask about yet. Do it yourself and then judge which bits you could do with your students.
  • The Spider's Apprentice

  • A helpful guide to web search engines. A terrific way to get much better at searching.
  • Teach Yourself Photoshop

  • Very straightforward. The graphics only load when you click onthe link to them, so it looks a bit bare, but it covers the material well. For teachers or higher level students.
  • Introduction to HTML

  • A very thorough explanation of what HTML is all about and hot to use it. Comes from Case Western University.
