NLT2000
Teachers as Developers |
The Project Now in its third year, the Adult Community Education NLT project is moving its focus from teachers as 'users' to teachers as 'developers' of computer based curriculum materials. This project seeks to shed light on what is necessary for teachers to make the shift from simply using new learning technologies in their classes to being developers of computer based materials.
The strong research focus is very much present in this project. Major questions we will be asking are:
In this project, four teachers will take part in a number of training and development sessions where they will:
- What are the most useful things for them to learn to move from user to developer?
- What kinds of authoring tools are useful to ALBE and ESL teachers in community based providers?
- What can resonably be produced in the limited time available to sessional teachers?
- complete skills audits (before and after)
- learn basic principles of instructional design for computer assisted langauge learning
- see demonstrations and 'have a go' at using a range of authoring tools.
- with support from trainer and peers, develop units of work suitable for low language level students
- document their experiences through reflective journals
Outcomes The findings of the project will be written up as a report which will be made publicly available at the end of the project.
Units developed by the teachers will be published on the internet or on removable electronic media (floppy disk or CD ROM).
The teachers themselves will have developed skills in developing computer based teaching and learning materials.
