Michael's Story

I was born into the Tan family in Malaysia.

We lived a long time in Malaysia. We lived in a small cottage there. Three children were born in Malaysia.

The family and I left Malaysia to go to better schools in Australia. I was about 5 years old.

When I came to Australia with my family in 1968, I fell over on some stairs in Greenhills, in Greensborough, and I went to the Austin Hospital in Heidelberg. I don`t know how many days I stayed in hospital.

We lived in Greenhills where there were dirt roads at the time in the Suburbs. Then we bought a house in Watsonia North. It was three years before my other sister was born in 1975 in December. The family lived for 19 years in Watsonia North in a three bedrooom house.

We played with the next-door Neighbours. We played cowboys and Indians and cricket in our backyard.

I went to Watsonia North Primary, Special school, Ivanhoe Primary, and South Watsonia. We did some things at school. I went to Macleod Technical School. I left school at Year 10 in 1982. My teachers at Macleod Technical School were friendly Teachers.

Over the Christmas holidays, the family and I are going to visit Aunt Nell at Mount Beauty. We have been on holidays to Queensland, Warrnambool, Geelong, Portland, Apollo Bay and Phillip Island.
