Prep Transition

Carlton Primary School works closely with local kindergartens and childcare centre on a prep transition programme. This programme allows children the opportunity to become familiar with the school over term 4 before they begin prep. They spend time at the school with Early Childhood professionals, familiarising themselves with the school building, the bell, the teachers, school routine and the children they will see the following year.

The school is also implementing The Alannah and Madeline Foundation’s Better Buddy programme between the current grade five students and the pre-school students, this involves the grade five students spending time at the pre-school working with, and getting to know their buddy. Then, in the following year when the students are in Prep, the relationship will continue as a school based grade 6 - Prep Better Buddy programme.
The skill sharing that goes on between the teachers and the Early Childhood professionals allows a seamless transition between pre-school and prep, supporting the children socially and educationally at this very exciting time in their lives.
