In the kitchen garden the children have the opportunity to see plants develop from seeds to food that they prepare in the schools commercial kitchen and then eat together. This garden is used as part of our healthy eating programme to engender a love of growing, preparing and eating fresh and healthy food, rather than highly processed foods. The majority of the families at the school are from refugee backgrounds and have little knowledge of Western foods and often unknowingly feed their children processed convenience foods of little nutritional value. Through the kitchen garden, the school is aiming for parental involvement in the garden and kitchen, leading to a better understanding of healthy eating.
