The Friends of Cardinia Creek Sanctuary (FOCCS) formed in March 1998. At this time, the reserve was heavily infested with Sweet Pittosporum and other weeds that were degrading the values of the bushland. The group was established after Judy Smith (FOCCS President) approached the Cardinia Shire Council about setting up a group to help them care for the reserve.

Since the first meeting of the FOCCS, our small group of               Above: Some Friends group members at a working bee
hardworking volunteers have
removed thousands of Sweet Pittosporum plants, not to mention
countless Wandering Jew, Japanese Honeysuckle, Winter Cherry, thistles and Forget-me-nots! The regeneration in the years since 1998, and the new sightings of previously unseen native animals in the reserve, are a credit to the hard work of the Friends. The group is also involved in other activities such as Clean Up Australia Day, tree planting days and educating the community on the reserve and how to care for it.
