The Beaconsfield Flora
and Fauna Reserve is
managed by the Cardinia Shire Council, with assistance from the Friends of
Cardinia Creek Sanctuary. Management activities in the reserve can include
weeding, fencing, track maintenance, removal of rubbish and visitor
dangers, tree planting and preparation of educational
materials for the noticeboard.
Managing the reserve requires information on what is special about the reserve and how these things can be protected. Information on the reserve has been gathered through surveys of indigenous plants and animals and weed species found in the reserve by qualified botanists and ecologists. Visitor surveys have provided information on what attracts visitors to the reserve and how facilities can be improved. A management plan, created for the reserve by the Friends group in 2003, provides guidelines for how to manage the reserve. The plan outlines values of the reserve for flora and fauna conservation, recreation and environmental education. It provides guidance to the Friends group and Council for the activities that need to be carried out in the coming years to protect the reserve for conservation and recreation.
