Here's an update on some recent happenings... If you have anything you
wish to submit, please forward it to me. This newsletter will include
the following topics:
- Latest issue of WPC Rule Book
- CAPO National Open Championships, 3-4 August 2002
(REMINDER)
- 2002 WPC World Championships (UPDATE)
- 2003 WPC World Championships
- Results from recent competitions
Latest issue of WPC Rule Book
Unfortunately, I've still not received any word on when we can expect
availability of the WPC Rule Book. Rest assured, that as soon as I do,
copies will be sourced, their availability and price will be advised,
and copies can be purchased.
REMEMBER - It is the lifter's responsibility to ensure that they are
lifting within the rules, and that all of their equipment complies with
WPC rulings. It's probably a good idea to check any queries you have NOW,
before the State Titles get underway, to save any embarrassment at them
or at the Nationals in August.
If in doubt, ask your State Co-ordinator for clarification.
Only if they are unsure of the ruling and require clarification, will
the State Co-Ordinator contact the Technical Committee for a ruling.
The Technical Committee received an enquiry regarding movement of the
head during the uplift of a benchpress. The response to that query was:
According to Point 2 on the Bench Press:
"The lifter must lie backward with shoulders and buttocks in contact
with the flat bench surface. The elected position of the buttocks shall
be maintained throughout the attempt. The lifter's shoes or toes must
be in solid contact with the platform or surface. The position of the
head is optional".
Causes for disqualification of a bench press, point 2 states:
"Any change in the elected lifting position or the raising of the
buttocks, or lateral movement of the hands, during the lift proper (between
the referee's signals). Any excessive movement or change of contact of
the feet during the lift proper."
Nothing is mentioned about movement of the head ... it is only specific
to the feet.
Just a couple of things to keep in mind, as these types of things will
need to be checked by the Chief Referee when records have been broken:
- there are length and width limits on wrist wraps
- there are length and width limits on knee wraps
- there are rules regarding undersuits
- there are rules regarding "softsuits", ie the suits you
need to put on to benchpress and deadlift
