CAPO WA 2005 National Postal Deadlift Comp
10th December 2005
Wanneroo Health Academy, WA
By Adam Coe
G'day all..........
A quick report on the C.A.P.O. (Western Australia..) National Postal
Deadlift Competition, combined with a club/novice/improvement event, held at
the Wanneroo Health Academy, Saturday the 10th of December.
13 lifters in total, 9 of which progressed to the deadlift section following
the 'club' benchpress event. First up, the girls. Jacki Giglia continues on
with good form & diligence with a strong success with 60kg. She'll be in the
'box seat' for a W.P.C. World Record Deadlift next year, as her lifts
progress. Well done Jackie..!!!
Her 'main' competition at Wannneroo, Anne Whitehead, also continues on with
good form & style. 62.5kg bench, following on with a success on 105 in the
deadlift section. An interesting little 'friendly' battle between these two
competitors added a bit of 'fun' to the day..!!
Melissa Delich is one STRONG girl..!!!! 82.5kg bench, followed on with a
gutsy Australian Record (breaking her own mark of 145kg..!!!) 180(!!!) kg
deadlift was a treat to watch. Mel. is hoping to break the woman's Open
Super records in time, most probably following her entry into a career of
Physical Education. Great stuff Melissa..!!!
Adam Pertulla (18 yrs, 82.5kg...) lifted very strongly (with power to
spare...) in his first competition. His final lifts of 92.5kg bench & 170
d.l. were fab..!!! With time, I'd say 110+ in the bench & 230+ in the dead.
are quite obtainable..!!! Well done Adam..!!!!!!!
Matt Kolouvi (25 yrs, 82.5 division...) went 115 B.P. & 180kg Dead. Again,
with time & some effort in his foundation training, Matt will be good..!!!!
Likewise for compatriots Jason Kreun (24 yrs, 82.5kg..), Mark O'Brien (26
yrs, 90kg..) & Dave Parker (33 yras, 110kg div.). These guys ALL displayed
great enthusiasm & power..!!! Their lifts were all done with good form &
plenty of determination. GREAT STUFF..!!!!
Pat the Irishman was just a plain slacker. At a larg-ish 116 b'weight, he
simply cruised through three attempts in the bench, finishing with 130kg.
The first two were simply warm-ups. Next time, I'd say Pat would be good for
a 150kg (or better..!!!!).
Dennis Anderson (61 yrs, 82.5 division..) continues to break new ground.!!!!
An Oz. Record of 190kg in the Deadlift was well-justified, but....195 was
just that bit heavy. Having now moved up to a 'new' age bracket, the records
are now no longer safe whilst Dennis is lifting..!!!! We expect more records
to fall in 2006..!!!
Ryan Betton is one heck of a bencher..!!!! 86.5 b'weight, 34 yrs. of age.
Ryan opened with a 'plaything' 140kg, & continued on with a strong 150.
Given time, I'd say a sub-180kg bench is quite the target for Ryan..!!
The two final juniors for the day were HELL impressive..!!! David Jansen (22
yrs., 125 division...) went 135 bench (with power to spare..!!) for an
Australian Junior Record & followed up with a another Oz. Record 235kg
Deadlift..!!!!! All in his FIRST competition..!!!!!!!!!! His lifts were
smooth & powerful - my prediction..?? 160+kg bench & 260+ dead. for his next
comp. FABULOUS STUFF..!!!!!!!!!!
Finally, Matt Van Beuningen from the township of Collie (about 250k's south
of Perth...) made the drive up to show 'em some RAW benchpressing power..!!!
Combining an interest in bodybuilding, Mat's initial foray into the
'strength' side of things was AGAIN impressive..!!!! 22 years & 129
b'weight, Matt went a ridiculously easy 180kg for a first, 195 for a strong
second (Australian Record..!!!!), followed up by a close miss on 205kg.
Happy with his performance, Matt retired for the day, unfortunately unable
to complete the deadlift section due to injury. Again, with time, I'm
expecting a 240kg bench & 280+ deadlift from him. A BIG guy with even BIGGER
potential..!!!!!!!
All told, another excellent day out for our final powerlifting event of
2005. The next comp. will be early in March, at the same location, followed
on by the State Powerlifting Titles in sunny Carlisle. We look forward to
the National Titles in Brisbane for 2006, & stronger performances for all
concerned throughout the upcoming year. Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year
to all C.A.P.O. members Australia-wide..!!!!!!!!
AC.
