BENCH PRESS IN PARADISE
Their Open Day had a breakfast barby which went all day, raffles for surfboards, clothes, memberships. Musashi were represented along with others doing health tests, massages etc. Damon Hayhow took the mike and was M.C. for the day. He didn't mention his new company "Biologiclabs" once, just 10 to 15 times. We all now know the best deal on supplements in Australia is at damon@biologiclabs.com.au. First battle was our two QLD Record-holding girls, Teresa Manning and Terri-Leigh Wulff who both blew existing records not once but twice out of the water. Terri squeezed Teresa into 2nd place but both went home with new Aust records. Next a big group of Juniors who have given Andrea Sterns more work to do in re-writing the records, at the end of the day the order was Peter Lacey 1st, Matt Jefferies 2nd, and Richard Huxley 3rd. With plenty of young talent right behind them, look out the rest of Aust, the QLD Juniors are flourishing. The day just got bigger with the Novice event finishing with Matt McKinnley taking No.1 spot, Mick Long 2nd and Kevin Carter 3rd. The encouragement award went to Matt Jefferies and here's a young guy with World Record potential. What can you say about the Open Division 2 of the most awesome bench pressers in Australia, or should I say some of the best in the World, Ange Galati and Mason Jardine. Both these guys lift over 220kg with what seems like ease to see the bar coming off their chest, keep its line and glide to lock out is amazing. The roar from an appreciative audience was as good as it gets as both put away their 3 lifts with TV. News focused on the battle - who won? Powerlifting QLD did. Those present saw some great lifting, the gym proprietors are keen to grow the event into an annual spectacular, the news coverage is a break through - so it's a win/win situation for C.A.P.O. |
