Gorsedd ceremony (photo left) at St.Just in Penwith led by the Grand Bard, Anne Trevenen Jenkin - the first female Bard to hold this high office. Alison was made a Bard of Cornwall in recognition of the work she has done for Cornwall, particularly her services to family history.  Alison's Bardic name is "MYRGWYN WOOLCOCK" - meaning, "Grand-daughter of Woolcock."

HUGHES ENGINEHOUSE

MOONTA MINES

MOONTA, South Australia

Built in 1865, it housed a large (60"?) Cornish Beam Engine to pump water from several of the mines.

Restoration has now been finalized and, although it will never be fully restored, it will not be allowed to deteriorate further.

The enginehouse was closed in 1923

Many miners went from the Australian and Californian Goldfields to the Cariboo and other mining areas in British Columbia during the second half of 19th Century. Some are buried in Victoria's Ross Bay Cemetery or one of the other smaller cemeteries. http://www.oldcem.bc.ca is a new Web site which gives the history and on-going interest in Ross Bay cemetery and Pioneer Square cemetery. It gives the contact names and addresses for those who wish a search to be made. B.C. Vital Statistics for Deaths and Marriages within certain dates are also on-line to give reference numbers. These references then need to be looked up on Microfilm to view the original certificate. BIRTHS are to follow soon but will only cover 1872-1897 for the time being (Hundred year moratorium).
