CORNISH
PIONEERS OF BENDIGO
(Compiled
by Leanne Lloyd) This
is an attempt to document the many Cornish born pioneers who spent time in
Bendigo at some
stage in their life. We have tried to find as many names a possible but
realise that this database is only the tip of the iceberg. The criteria we
set when compiling this database was to record the names and biographical
information of as many Cornish born pioneers as possible. The person
should be born in Cornwall and have spent a period of time (no matter how
short) in Bendigo to qualify. Where possible I have endeavoured to record
the names of parents and year and place of birth in Cornwall. The name of
spouse/s is included and year of marriage. If that spouse is also Cornish
born then they too will have a record in their own right. Dates of death
if known and place of death if outside the Bendigo area is included when
known. The children born to the marriage are also documented in some cases
so that further Cornish bloodlines can be established. If the information
has been given by a family member or researcher then they are identified
and information given about them for further contact if necessary. Thank
you to all who have made a contribution to this database, in particular
Ruth Hopkins for sharing with me many years of her research and interests
in the Cornish of Bendigo and beyond. Please
note: The
place names and names of people given in this database are recorded as
they are written in the records. There are many variations and it is up to
family members to ascertain the correct spellings and to determine which
spelling is the correct one. I have given the information as it was found
and recognise that some entries will contain inconsistent or incorrect
data but it is beyond my control in most cases. |
