About the Association



The Cornish Association is based in Victoria, Australia.

Objectives

Operation

To achieve these objectives the Association operates through Special Interest Groups being:

Functions are also arranged which have a broad appeal to all members

The Association serves as a focal point for involvement with many other organisations in Cornwall and in other states of Australia

The Association offers one or more meetings each month, mostly on a Saturday afternoon between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The Association maintains a comprehensive Information Resource Centre specialising in Cornish Parish Records and reference material that is relevant to the study of family history and Cornish heritage.

Excursions to places of interest are arranged from time to time

A quarterly Newsletter (Editor: Lesley Morton), is produced to inform members of events here and in Cornwall with a section devoted to Family History queries.

Management

The Association is managed and controlled by a Committee of Management of 20 members, representing the various groups including the Ballarat Branch and the Geelong Branch.

Place of Meeting

The Library and Research Room are situated at the Uniting Church in Australia, Hughesdale Hall. Meetings are mostly held at this venue which is situated at the corner of Kangaroo Road and Skipton Street, Hughesdale. Melway Ref Map 69 D7.

Ballarat Branch meetings are held on the 1st Saturdays of February, April, June, August, October and December at 5 pm at St.Cuthberts Uniting Church, Elliot Street, BALLARAT.

Geelong Branch meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of every second month commencing in January each year at 07.30pm until 09.30pm at Uniting Church, Cnr Boundary Road & Queenscliff Road, East Geelong.

Membership

Membership is open to Cornish persons by birth or descent, their spouses and their children. Other persons with an interest in Cornwall whose applications are approved by the Committee
