The Club's "Apartment" (Number 5) can be very, very pleasant during summer. The mountain is relatively quiet, not many people around and to help the Store is open 7 days a week (on short hours). Best of all, when it's really hot in Melbourne or down on the plains, at the Village altitude it can be nice and mild, with the fresh mountain air, then cool in the evenings. Mountain walks are a must, there are masses of wild flowers in Spring (good photo op's) and plenty of walking maps of the area.
The walk we would definitely recommend is the "Klingsporn Bridle Track", it starts from the bottom of Burnt Hut Spur ski run. Near the bottom, you go to the left and for about 2 hours you wind gently down hill down to the park just near the mountains Entry Gate. You must then have someone drive a BBQ lunch & drinks down to meet you in the Mirimbah park.
Mountain walking maps and other general information is available at the Resort Mountain Board (RMB) office which is in refurbished Community Centre. This was previously, the La Trobe University building to the north of the Mt Buller Chalet Hotel. The complex contains a well equipped gymnasium, the Sports Hall has a 'rock climbing wall', a basket ball / netball court and of course the highest cinema in Australia screening the latest movies. Mansfield-Mt Buller Tourist office: will easily be able to post you the Summer Brochure for the Mansfield/Mt Buller and the surrounding areas. They have a lot of Information about driving through Tolmie and into the upper reaches of the King Valley and Whitfield (with all its great Wineries). Phone: 1800 039 049 - ask for Pam or Colleen.
NOTE: over Summer every Month has two Saturday "Farmers Market" days at either Mansfield, or just up the road at Tolmie
