Eastern Spinebill

Eastern Spinebill - (Acanthorhynchus
tenuirostris)
This honeyeater is found in Australia along the
coast line from Queensland to South Australia in heathlands, forests
or woodlands with suitable understorey plants. A colourful,
fine-billed bird - around 14cm in length - with a white breast and
tail tips and cinnamon-buff underparts. Often found near grevilleas,
callistemons or plants with tubular flowers. Noisy wing beats alert
watchers to the presence of this spinebill or the sharp clear 'chip
chip chip' call.
Breeding time is in spring and early summer. The nest is a small,
deep cup of grass and fine bark pieces lined with feathers in which a
clutch of 2 to 3 eggs is laid. Both parents share the incubation
period of 14 days.
