The twelfth biennial conference of the Australian Association for Byzantine Studies will take place at the University of Western Australia in April next year. The conference will begin at noon on Friday April 20 and end in the early afternoon of Sunday April 22.
The theme of the conference is: Byzantium and the West. Plenary addresses will be delivered by Judith Herrin, Robert Holfelder, Chryssa Maltezou, Claudia Rapp and Paul Stephenson.
Offers of other contributions are now invited (average length of each session, including time for discussion, 30 minutes). The closing date for approval of contributions is January 29, 2001. It is hoped that a majority of contributions will be on subjects relating to the theme of the conference, but contributions in other areas of Byzantine studies will be welcome.
Titles and abstracts of papers should be mailed, faxed or e-mailed to the address given below. E-mail is preferred, with the abstract sent as a part of the message, unless it contains material in a non-Roman font, in which case it should be sent as an attachment.
The fee for enrolment in the conference will be $Aus 99.00 (students, including recent unwaged graduates, $Aus 49.50). The cost of the conference dinner will be $45.
