Early Christian Studies

A new monograph series from the Centre for Early Christian Studies, Australian Catholic University, providing scholarly resources from the post-Apostolic period down to 800 CE

Editorial Board: Pauline Allen, Raymond Canning, Lawrence Cross, James McLaren, Wendy Mayer, David Sim

The aims of the series are several:

Manuscripts which offer texts not previously available to students and scholars, or which offer studies that are novel or challenge the accepted view, will be especially welcome. Dissertations will also be considered, provided that they are written in an accessible style and address a topic which is not overly specialised. Text editions in languages other than Greek and Latin will be considered. Editors of texts will have the opportunity to provide a facing page translation in English, if the text is short, or a companion translation volume, if the text is lengthy. Works dealing with the history of art will also receive favourable consideration. It is not, however, within the mandate of the series to publish collected essays or conference proceedings.

Intending authors should send a Table of Contents and sample chapter/portion of edited text/translation from the proposed volume/s, along with a synopsis (including timetable and approx. length [no. of pages and word count]) to:

Facsimile Edition of the Codex Etchmiadzin

The Akademische Druck- und Verlagsanstalt in Graz, Austria, has recently made available in facsimile this outstanding Armenian codex. The 19 miniatures of this work are a testimony to the greatness of painting in Armenian book illumination, especially in the case of four miniatures from the 6th century which are not only the oldest examples of Armenian book art, but were also to have a decisive influence on the development of book production in Eastern Europe. The unique significance of this manuscript is complemented by its magnificent binding and two monumental ivory plates.
