Boroodara Writers' Group began in 1996 as
a family history workshop, facilitated for several years by successive
Boroondara Writers-in-Residence. Since 2002 BWG has been an independent,
self-funded community organisation encompassing all writing styles
and subjects. Membership is open
to anyone and costs $5 per session to cover catering. The $5 joining
fee secures a copy of our 2006 anthology. We
have about 30 active members averaging about 13 members in attendance
on Saturdays.
Workshops are held from 1-4pm on the
last Saturday of the month, February-November, in the meeting hall
behind Hawthorn Library, 584 Glenferrie Rd, Hawthorn. |
Other activities include Wednesday in-depth
workshops (limited numbers), occasional skills workshops with internal
and external tutors covering subjects including: writing prose, writing
poetry, appreciating poetry and making handmade books; publication
of a biennial anthology of members’ work; occasional special
events such as a program of public readings celebrating Family History
Week in 2007, and
a monthly newsletter with information on improving one’s writing,
humour, editorial comment and information on opportunities for writers. |
