RVBA Life Membership For Our Les

Graeme Hosken with Les Baker

Les Baker has been a member of Burwood District Bowls Club since 1971 and has served as club president, secretary, treasurer and the CoM from 1974-2000. He was invested as Life Member of the club in 1989.
In 1981 his involvement with Group 13 Eastern Suburbs commenced when he was elected delegate; he served as EDBA in 2004. Les was elected RVBA councillor in 1987 and still holds this roll today. Les has always willingly volunteered his time for any promotion of lawn bowls or support and advice to clubs and was presented with the RVBA Medal of Merit in 2003.
Les's devoted work to the sport of lawn bowls was widely recognised in 2000when he was presented with the Australian Sports Medal.
Burwood District Bowls Club is very proud of Les and all of his achievements and we could not think of a more deserving person to achieve the ultimate recognition from the RVBA. Congratulations Les on your lifetime work and dedication to our sport and to your club!

Burwood District Looking For New Recruits

18 Year Old Will Ogden In Action

Burwood District Bowls Club is looking for new members to join up and help strengthen our depth to strive for further on green success. Our Division 1 Side has won their section back to back but are just failing at the last hurdle to get into Premier Division.
We are looking for bowlers of a Division 1 standard of any age that can help to get to where we want to be.
The club has 14 qualified accredited coaches who actively oversee the development and the fine tuning of players to help achieve their own personal, team and club goals.
Last season Burwood District had 11 out of the 17 selected players, represent Group 13 in the Group Championships in Corowa. We have the potential to go far but we still require that "missing element" to go that extra step.
No positions in the top side are "set in stone" and the club will be selecting the best and in form possible 16 players each week.
If you are interested in being a part of a successful club and want to take up the challenge of help lifing a club from Division 1 into Premier Division then come and join us and experience our magnificent garden sourroundings and our two brand new greens in 2008/09.

Group 13 Squad Training 2008

The next Group 13 training session is on this Sunday 5th October at Camberwell Central Bowls Club starting at 9:30am. This session will run for 3 hours for the 32 players selected in the Group 13 squad and for all Group 13 affiliated club coaches, administrators, selectors and umpires. If you want to better your skills in any of these departments then you are encouraged to attend. There is no cost involved, just turn up and be apart of something special that is being created to strengthen bowls in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.
