Top Green Closed For Maintenance

The McClellan Green will be taken out of service from Monday 23rd November for refurbishment. We apologise if this has an effect on some fixture items, however it is necessary for best results of the green, and the Club in general. The refurbishment will include deep coring to recover the surface from the crusting mention last month, top dressing which will include sand filling the extensive holes, and levelling. It may require a second top dressing, but we will have wait for initial results before that decision is made. In any event, the green is expected to be returned to service by about mid January, in a far superior condition than which we currently find it.

Burwood District BC Opening Day

Season 2009/10 was officially declared open on Saturday 29th August at Burwood District with the Committee of Management and respective house and facility committees, together with our VIP guests Mr. Geoff Burt RVBA Country VP and Mr. Bob Stensholt, Local Member for Burwood.
The first order of business was to present the winning Metropolitan Division 3 Championship flag to the club. Team Captain Mike Chittenden accepted the Premiership Pennant and then raised the flag up high over the club. Congratulations Again!
All Burwood District Bowls Club Members together with the VIP Guests, went and enjoyed afternoon tea in the social clubrooms.
Afterwards a social game of bowls was played and a very enjoyable day was had by all.
A BIG thank you must be given to those volunteers who worked tirelessly during the week in cleaning up the place in readiness for Opening Day.

Burwood District Looking For New Recruits

Burwood District Bowls Club is looking for new members to join up and help strengthen our depth to strive for further on green success. Our Division 1 Side needs strengthening in order to compete and fight our way to get into Premier Division.
We are looking for bowlers of a Division 1 standard of any age that can help to get to where we want to be.
The club has 14 qualified accredited coaches who actively oversee the development and the fine tuning of players to help achieve their own personal, team and club goals.
Last season Burwood District had 9 out of the 18 selected players, represent Group 13 in the Group Championships in Corowa. We have the potential to go far but we still require that "missing element" to go that extra step.
No positions in the top side are "set in stone" and the club will be selecting the best and in form possible 16 players each week.
If you are interested in being a part of a successful club and want to take up the challenge of help lifing a club from Division 1 into Premier Division then come and join us and experience our magnificent garden sourroundings and our two brand new greens in 2009/10.

Burwood's Division 3 Premiers

Burwood District's second side has won Melbourne's Metropolitan Division 3 Premiership with an emphatic 66 shot victory over Blackburn played out at Ringwood Bowls Club on Saturday 14th March. The team was magnificent right across the whole green winning on every rink. Burwood went into the afternoon tea break with a 30 shot lead on a slow green due to a storm hitting the venue just before the start of play. We handled the conditions well and then just after the restart yet another storm hit Ringwood and play was halted for 30 minutes. Blackburn just could not keep up with the Burwood team who steamrolled their opponents. The rink skipped by Nick Hodgens won 42-10, the rink skipped by Rob Morley won 29-14, the rink skipped by Harold Kennedy won 23-17 and the rink skipped by Mike Chittenden won 28-15. A brilliant display and well deserved!
