Burwood District Looking For New Recruits
Burwood District Bowls Club is looking for new members to join up and help strengthen our depth to strive for
further on green success. Our Division 1 Side has won their section back to back but are just failing at the last hurdle
to get into Premier Division. We are looking for bowlers of a Division 1 standard of any age that can help to get to where we
want to be. The club has 14 qualified accredited coaches who actively oversee the development and the fine tuning of
players to help achieve their own personal, team and club goals. Last season Burwood District had 11 out of the 17 selected
players, represent Group 13 in the Group Championships in Corowa. We have the potential to go far but we still require
that "missing element" to go that extra step. No positions in the top side are "set in stone" and the club will be
selecting the best and in form possible 16 players each week. If you are interested in being a part of a successful club
and want to take up the challenge of help lifing a club from Division 1 into Premier Division then come and join us and experience
our magnificent garden sourroundings and our two brand new greens in 2008/09. To make an enquiry of your interest

All Group 13 affiliated clubs are welcome to attend. These sessions are for players, coaches, administrators, selectors
and umpires. If you want to better your skills in any of these departments then you are encouraged to attend. There is no
cost involved, just turn up and be apart of something special that is being created to strengthen bowls in the Eastern Suburbs
of Melbourne.
Burwood Is The Perfect Place To Bowl
Burwood District Bowls Club offers something for all bowlers whether they are elderly, young, experienced or novices.
Ladies Pennant is on Tuesday mornings from 10am which we field 4 teams from Divisions A1 to B3. The Ladies also have a
Saturday pennant team which competes each week from 12:30pm. The Ladies training sessions are run on Thursday mornings
from 10am under the watchful eyes of our club coaches. They are there to help out with any problems for each bowler
and to discuss different tactics for our pennant teams. It is set up to get the best out of your game.
Our Men's section has 5 Pennant teams ranging from Division 1 to Div 8. Our top side is very competitive in
Division 1 and is knocking on the door for promotion into Premier Division. There are plenty of mid-week competitions to participate in.
We have triples, inter-club and pairs competitions every week, just check our 'bowls calendar' link for details for each month.
Men's training sessions start from 4pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Coaching sessions are on every Tuesday night starting
at 5pm with specific drills and tactics planned. If you require more details or would like to join the Burwood District Bowls Club,
then please e-mail us.
Burwood Triples Win Australian Open Again
Burwood District's over 60's Triples combination of Terry Rawlings, Bill Wyatt and Barrie Jackett have taken out the Australian Open
today (23rd Feb) at Darebin. The trio never dropped a set throughout the whole tournament and won the final 9-9 and 7-5. It was a fantastic
effort by our blokes who had the blessing of all team mates to play the final despite the narrow mindedness of the powers that be to play such a final
on a day where pennant was scheduled. Hopefully for the future this will stupiditiy will be avoided. The Burwood top side won their match against
Burden Park comfortably and the guys winning the title was and extra bonus. Well done guys!!!
Paul Beanland Our Men's Singles Champion
Paul Beanland today (Sun 20th Jan) won his first Men's Club Singles Title at Burwood District defeating
Chris Creek 25-17. Paul won the first end of the match but then lost the next 5 consecutive ends as Chris settled into a grove
first. Paul then got his game together and won 6 of the next 8 ends to take a 12-9 lead. Both players then went end for end for the next
6 ends with Paul leading 16-15. Then yet again Paul won 6 of the last 8 ends to take out the Club Singles Title 25-17.
This was both players first time experience in getting to the final at Burwood District. The rain the day before and overnight
ensured the green was running at only 13 seconds, and also a stiff south-westerly made conditions a bit tricky.
Both players went shot for shot at times which kept the small crowd entertained. Congratulations to both guys for getting to the final
but unfortunately there can only be one winner. Well done Paul!
Gold & Bronze Medal For Paul Williams
Paul Williams was selected to represent the Victorian Deaf Lawn Bowls Team in the 15th Australian Deaf Games
played at Southport Bowls Club on the Gold Coast from the 4th-8th January 2008.
In wet difficult conditions the greens were still running at a respectable 14 seconds.
Paul skipped his Triples team to a GOLD MEDAL and also picked up a BRONZE MEDAL playing third in the Team Fours.
Victoria came third overall behind champions Queensland and Runners Up New South Wales.
Paul has been playing bowls at Burwood District for a number of years now and it is fantastic to see him doing so well.
He has been an enthusiastic member of our club and is always eager to help out when it is required. We are very proud of his
achievement and look forward to further successes. Well done Paul!
Wendy Promnitz Our Ladies Champion
Wendy Promnitz today (Wed 19th Dec) won her first Ladies Club Singles Title at Burwood District defeating last years
champion Beth Chittenden 25-18. In a tight even match, Wendy managed to win ends 5, 6, 7 & 8 which reaped 8
shots and proved to be the difference in the end. Both players displayed some fantasic draw shot bowling that entertained the
small crowd of about 40. Wendy won it in style on the 27th end when holding 1 shot and with her last bowl drew the second inside
Beth's perfectly placed second shot bowl to take out the 2007/08 title. Congratulations to both players who played
fantastically well to get to the Final and well done on a great exihibition of bowling in the Final.
