Burwood District Looking For New Recruits
Burwood District Bowls Club is looking for new members to join up and help strengthen our depth to strive for
further on green success. Our Division 1 Side needs strengthening in order to compete and fight our way to get into
Premier Division. We are looking for bowlers of a Division 1 standard of any age that can help to get to where we
want to be. The club has 14 qualified accredited coaches who actively oversee the development and the fine tuning of
players to help achieve their own personal, team and club goals. Last season Burwood District had 9 out of the 18 selected
players, represent Group 13 in the Group Championships in Corowa. We have the potential to go far but we still require
that "missing element" to go that extra step. No positions in the top side are "set in stone" and the club will be
selecting the best and in form possible 16 players each week. If you are interested in being a part of a successful club
and want to take up the challenge of help lifing a club from Division 1 into Premier Division then come and join us and experience
our magnificent garden sourroundings and our two brand new greens in 2009/10. To make an enquiry of your interest

Burwood's Division 3 Premiers
Burwood District's second side has won Melbourne's Metropolitan Division 3 Premiership with an emphatic 66 shot
victory over Blackburn played out at Ringwood Bowls Club on Saturday 14th March. The team was magnificent right across
the whole green winning on every rink. Burwood went into the afternoon tea break with a 30 shot lead on a slow green
due to a storm hitting the venue just before the start of play. We handled the conditions well and then just after the restart
yet another storm hit Ringwood and play was halted for 30 minutes. Blackburn just could not keep up with the Burwood
team who steamrolled their opponents. The rink skipped by Nick Hodgens won 42-10, the rink skipped by Rob Morley won
29-14, the rink skipped by Harold Kennedy won 23-17 and the rink skipped by Mike Chittenden won 28-15. A brilliant display
and well deserved!
BDBC Hosts City v Country Deaf Bowls
The conglomerate team of City Deaf defeated Country deaf on Saturday in the 16th Annual City Deaf v Country Deaf
bowls event at Burwood District Bowls Club and in doing so secured the Owen K Fielding Memorial Shield. With the
win, their third in a row, City deaf moves to 11 wins, with Country Deaf having triumphed on 5 occasions. The best
bowler trophies were determined by votes for the best opposition bowler on each rink. The recipients this year were:
CITY best bowler: Heather Wilson (Montmorency) COUNTRY best bowler: Shirley Morrison (Bendigo VRI)
The Burwood District greens were running at a beautiful 14 seconds and a great time was had by all. Next year's event,
17th Annual Country Deaf v City Deaf will be held at Donald and Birchip Bowls Club in March/April 2010.
Ross Lawrence Is BDBC Men's Champion
Ross Lawrence has become the 2008/09 Burwood District Club Singles Champion in a marathon 34 end match to
defeat Daniel Frew 25-21. The final was of an extremely high standard as both players put on an exhibition of
fantastic lawn bowling. The first 16 ends were very tight before Ross got on a bit of a roll and blew the scoreline
out to 23-14. However the score did not reflect how well Daniel was fighting. With Ross holding match at the head
on a number of occasions, Daniel managed to kill the ends and eventually win the replays. He clawed his way back into the game
and was 21-24 down when, what was to be the final end, Ross again was holding match and Daniel had two second shot bowls. He
then drove at the Lawrence bowl only to clip the jack into his own bowls and ricocheted it wide on the rink with the
Lawrence bowl still holding shot and the championship! Congratulations Ross on a great win!
Wendy Promnitz Is BDBC Ladies Champion
The Burwood District Ladies Club Singles Championship was played between Evelyn Lambert and Wendy Promnitz on Wednesday 17th December 2008 with
reigning champion Wendy Promnitz going back to back after winning 25-9. Overnight and morning rain saw the picturesque Warner Green running
fairly slow and Wendy took the mat at every opportunity and went ditch to ditch which proved to be the winning tactic. Wendy started very
strongly and was never really challenged from the word go. Her draw shot was just too consistent and Evelyn just could not find her rhythm.
Both players fought very hard in the knockout games and had to defeat most of the top ladies at Burwood District to earn a spot in the final.
Both ladies had won the Club Singles before so they both knew what sort of pressure to expect. Evelyn did exceptionally well to get to the final
considering she had experienced a family tragedy not long ago. Congratulations to Wendy Promnitz, our Ladies Singles Champion for 2008/09. Best
of luck for the Champion of Champions!
