Bunerong Ski Club:

Is an incorporated non-profit group of about 20 members and their families. The club provides accommodation in Mount BawBaw Alpine Village for club members, families and friends.

Our aim is to promote enjoyment of the outdoor activities available at Mount Baw Baw, particularly for snow sports when possible. All funds generated from accommodation charges are used for the current and future maintenance and upgrading of facilities at our lodge.

Bunerong Ski Club History:

During the 1950s, the 1st Springvale Scouts, Senior Scouts (afterwards Venturers) and Rover Crew became interested in skiing as an outdoor activity. Many weekends were spent at Mount Baw Baw. The group would camp at Neulyne's Mill site, where there were some derelict huts, walk up to the Painted Run each day, carrying ski equipment and lunch, and walk down again in the evening.

When the Alpine Village site was opened for development, a group of members of the 1st Springvale Rover Crew (Bunerong Rovers - named for the Bunerong or Boon Wurrung people who originally inhabited the land around Springvale) decided to form a club and apply for one of the sites. The application was successful, and construction of the lodge followed.

Bunerong Ski Club Lodge:

The lodge was designed by architect Richard Allen, and constructed by club members with specialist supervision from builder Herman Christians, and electricians Bob Wookey and Len Moss. All these people were club members. The only major change to the design since it was completed has been the addition of the required emergency exit provisions - a side staircase from the balcony, and a corridor doorway from the bunkrooms.

Our lodge is ideally situated in Mount Baw Baw Alpine Village, at site 3. It provides ski-in, ski-out access to Mount Baw Baw ski tow facilities and cross-country ski trails. There are six comfortable bunk rooms catering for up to 24 people. The lodge is centrally heated with a communal kitchen, a large lounge/dining area, and an efficient drying room. From the lounge and balcony, there are panoramic views over the East Tanjil valley and the ski runs opposite. All village services are within easy walking distance. Members and guests need bring only bedding and food.
