Golden Point
Learning and
Cultural
Environment

Ballarat U3A is a member of a learning consortium housed at the former Golden Point State School which has been refurbished and modernised to encourage community learning. It is now named Golden Point Learning and Cultural Environment and known by the acronym GPlace.

The individual participants from the three Consortium members listed at left, are of a wide range of cultural and age backgrounds.

The property on which GPLACE exists belongs to Best Community Development and the refurbishment was financed jointly by BEST and the State Government of Victoria. Currently site beautification is being undertaken.

It is expected that the synergies activated in this environment between the three organisations will engender positive community connections between the age and racially divergent groups.

As well as being used by the three GPlace consortium members, it is anticipated that the building will become a much needed facility not only for the three members organisations but also for the city's many community groups to meet and share.
