President’s Message
A year beset with
global economic crisis present a daunting challenge to Rotarians.
As President of the
Rotary Club of Brighton Beach, I welcome this as a great opportunity to
harness the best in each of our hardworking member Rotarians “to do good
in the world”.
The club’s strong
force has been on service to the Rotary 3H program of Health, Hunger,
Humanity, with emphasis on provision of clean water, literacy, support
to abandoned children to name a few. The statistics seen continue to
dismay me: the abandoned, hungry and deaths due to unclean toxic water,
poor sanitation and lack of vaccines.
As we cannot change
the past, we can only look forward to tomorrow and aim to take control
of the moment now and the foreseeable future. We do this best in a
caring spirit of fun and fellowship, as we strive for better
understanding and peace among ourselves, at the same time uphold Rotary
values.
A comprehensive
portfolio is earmarked for the year to cover each of the four avenues of
Rotary service: Community Service, Vocational Service and New
Generations, Club Service and International Service.
Indeed, the club’s
driving spirit is not to walk away from tremendous challenges as
encountered in the past with international projects. More so, our
tenacity and persistence made the difference between dreaming great
dreams and putting our vision into action. With
this, we are able to renew lives and give the less fortunate, new
horizons of opportunity and meaning in their lives, regardless of race
and creed.
