Dear Athletes and Families,

Little Athletics Victoria (LAVic) is celebrating its 40th year of fundraising for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal.  To mark this special anniversary LAVic have re-introduced, after a long absence, the Relaython and have invited all Victorian Athletic Centres to participate.
Brighton Little Athletics Centre has a history of supporting this appeal especially given that the Royal Children's Hospital is available to our youngest members, our athletes, should the need arise.  Although the Royal Children's Hospital officially opened new facilities a few days ago, the need for fundraising through the Annual Good Friday Appeal remains vital.  The hospital seeks to keep in step with technology and the need to purchase new and update existing equipment continues.

Brighton Little Athletics Centre has accepted LAVic's invitation and will participate in the Relaython, as will other Centres around Victoria, on Saturday 12 November.  This event will be conducted from 6am to 12noon on this day with the object to keep the baton continuously moving around our athletics track for the entire 6 hours.  Athletes are invited to get into the spirit of fun by wearing their "Funky" socks.  Brighton Little Athletics Centre will still offer the usual program of athletic events and will call age groups in between events to participate.  We will be touching base with the Nerve Centre at LAVic hourly to provide updates on the day.   We would also like to warmly invite our parents and officials to participate on the day by running a lap or two but please be mindful that only registered athletes are covered by Little Athletics Insurance.

Brighton Little Athletics Centre asks if athletes could seek sponsorship prior to the event with the pledge form attached.  Please use one pledge form for each athlete and write the athlete's name on the bottom of the page.  We, along with LAVic, request that athletes do not go door to door to request donations but rather approach family, friends or parent work colleagues.  Seeking up front donations would be preferable as athletes will not be required to return to collect money after the event. Brighton Little Athletes Centre would like to thank the Kulesza Family who have kindly donated 2 prizes that we will present on Saturday 3 December.  The first will be a $100 JB Hi-Fi voucher to the athlete who raises the most money and the second prize will be a $50 JB Hi-Fi voucher to an athlete who will be randomly drawn from the pool of athletes who participated in the relaython and fundraising and returns their sponsorship pledge forms with money to their club president or me by 9am on Saturday 3 December.

I would love to hear from athletes in the U12 age groups and above who may be able to come down to Dendy Park early on the day at 6am to get the event up and running by participating prior to the commencement of competition.

To all our parents and officials, as well as participating, your cheering and clapping of athletes as they participate would add to the atmosphere of the day.

Please contact me with any enquiries.

Thank you for your support, in advance,

Debbie McCann,
