Southern Metro Region (SMR) Track & Field Championships

2008 SMR Championships - Track Events Timetable

2008 SMR Championships - Field Events Timetable

The SMR Track & Field Championships will be held at:

Frankston Little Athletics Centre
Ballam Park, Frankston (Melway 103 B4)
Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th February, 2008

As already advised, entry into the championships is strictly conditional on the understanding that a short duty will be required by all parents. Where possible, duties have been arranged so that you can watch your athletes compete. This will, however, depend on events chosen and the particular duties we are allocated.

There is an A-Z Competition Officials Guide   for your information...

The weather may be hot, so please make sure you bring drinks, sunscreen and something to sit on. Food and drink will be on sale at the venue

Scheduling

It is very important that you arrive at the venue and are ready to compete at least 45 minutes before the scheduled time of your first event to allow athletes time to settle. Parking will be tight, so allow plenty of time to find a park, make your way into the venue and find me. I will set up a sun shelter with the Brighton banner, so look for it. When you arrive, please let me know you are there. Track & Field championships are an administratively busy time for team managers, so it is important that YOU keep track of your athletes and have them ready to be taken to the marshalling area 20 minutes before their scheduled event time. Only team managers and athletes are allowed in the marshalling areas.

Where track events clash with field events, a release can be obtained so that an athlete can leave their field event, without being eliminated, to compete in their track event. Even so, with the variability in timing between events, this can be impossible to manage and can lead to athletes missing events (for example, where field events run overtime or track events run late).  This can become particularly dicey as there are essentially three track programmes running (front straight, back straight and circular events). If you become aware on the day that events are not running to schedule, and events which should not clash might do so, inform me immediately.

Important rules and guidelines for athletes and parents to note are:

  • Uniform: all runners must wear a Brighton Centre competition top and navy shorts with no logo, or a logo small enough to be covered by a 3x3 cm square. Shorts with no logo are best. Athletes not in the correct uniform will not be allowed to compete.

  • Spikes: Only U12 and older may wear spiked shoes. Spikes may be used in sprints (flat & hurdles up to 400m), jumps and javelin. If spikes are worn, all spike holes must have a spike or plug installed i.e. NO empty spike holes are allowed. Spikes must be sharp, conical type (not needle) and no longer than 7mm. Spikes may not be used in unlaned events.

  • Crouch Start: U12 and older must use a crouch start in sprint (flat & hurdles up to 400m) events. If spikes are worn, starting blocks must also be used.

  • Pit jumps: Always leave jumps pits by walking forwards and out of the pit. Jumps are measured to the nearest mark left on the sand beyond the takeoff point, even if made by walking out of the pit.

  • Throws: Always enter and leave the ring (for shot and discus) by the back. Do not allow any part of your body or apparel (including hats) to touch the top of the ring foot-stop or fall outside the ring. It’s a good idea not to wear a hat while making your throw.
