SMR Coaching Camp
- 23-25 November
This is a great
skills development weekend for any athlete. Coaching,
accommodation, meals, cap, drink-bottle and a great, fun time -
all for only $70. Registration form and details are available
here
).
Those who have been in the past always come back with
great tales of what they learned and the fun they had.
Remember we start
at 8.45am with Warm-ups Unfortunately
we have had to cancel some events over the past couple of
weeks. One of the main causes is not starting events by 9am,
due to quite a number of late arrivals, and chasing
officials for duty. Please be fair to all our athletes
by arriving for warm-ups (8.45am) and stepping up for your
rostered duty. If you're rostered on and can't be there, please
contact your Club President so they can arrange a swap.
We have also made some adjustments to the scheduled events and
the revised programs are available on our
Season Calendar page. NB: The online event programs
now differ slightly from those published in our handbook.
Region Relays are
this Sunday
at Duncan Mackinnon Oval in Murrumbeena. Our athletes have been
working hard at practice and we look forward to them doing their
best on Sunday. Thanks to all the parents who have helped at
practice. Please see or email
Deb McCann
if you have any questions. Remember to be their early for your
first event. Final practice is on Saturday at 8am, followed by
our 3rd Relay program.
Coaching Throws
coaching with Judy and Peter has commenced on Wednesdays at
6-7pm and Sundays from 10-11am. Track and Hurdles with Alan and
Ian commences on Tuesday (20/11) from 6-7pm. Broad Jumps with
Andrew commences this Saturday from 8.15am. High Jump with
Peter (currently overseas) will commence on Saturday December 1,
also at 8.15am. We will try to keep the
Coaching page up-to-date with any changes to this schedule.
The aim of these sessions is to assist all
athletes to develop their skills and achieve their best.
Schools
Championships Current
and recent Brighton athletes have done extremely well at recent
schools events. At the All Schools Championships, Cameron
Menzies won the U13 Discus and Shot Put; Jarryd Lee was 2nd in
the U14 Discus and 5th in Shot Put; and Tamsen Kempster made the
final of the U13 200m. At the Primary Schools State
Championships, Zoe Preston was 8th in the Discus.
Congratulations all!
Javelin Unfortunately
we are currently unable to have Javelin down on the lower oval
at Dendy Park. We are making an application to Bayside Council
to enable us to return the event to where we have done it for 15
years. In the short term, it will be held late in the Saturday
program on the top oval. To enable Javelin to work well in this
format, Judy is going to need assistance from around 5 parents,
otherwise we will not be able to run the event. Parents, please
hop in and enable your athletes to do this event.
Summer is
approaching Remember
to bring hats, long sleeves and sunscreen for protection - this
applies equally to both athletes and adults. Sunday is
forecast to be 29c, so make sure you are well protected if you
are going to the Region Relay Championships.
Royal Children's
Hospital Appeal
Little Athletics has been involved for more than 20 years in
this appeal. Due to many late arrivals last Saturday, we were
unable to have our fund raising effort. We will now run our lap
at the start of the program on November 24 - all adults and
athletes to participate - gold coin donation. |
