WOULD YOU LIKE TO
REPRESENT BRIGHTON LITTLE ATHLETICS CENTRE?
As well as our usual Saturday
morning competition, U9-U15 Brighton athletes have the
opportunity to compete against other centres in Victoria in
several Championship events during the coming season.
Our first competitions are
the Regional and State Relay Championships held in November and
December respectively. Brighton is part of the Southern
Metropolitan Region (SMR). The "Regional" event will take
place at Caulfield (Duncan McKinnon Reserve) on Sunday 18th
November. Qualifiers from this event will then compete in
the "State" Championships at Olympic Park on Sunday 16th
December. Please note that these two events are for Relays
only. A "Track and Field" and a "Multi-event" Championship
will take place early next year.
We encourage and invite our
athletes across the U9-U15 age groups to nominate for
participation in these Relay Championships as we have a number
of events to fill. Even if you're not be the fastest in
your age group, we'd like to give you the opportunity to
compete, where numbers permit, we can enter more than one team
per age group. You also may prefer to run a 400 metre leg
of a relay rather than a 100m.

How to nominate:
If you are interested, please register by seeing me,
Debbie McCann, on Saturday mornings or add the athletes
name, age and preferred distance (100m, 200m or
400m) to the nomination lists located at your club desk.
Nominating one, two or all three distances is OK.
Nominations close at end of competition on Sat 20th October.
We are also asking for a parent to sign the form as athletes are
often keen and eager to register and compete without having any
prior knowledge of family commitments. Relay coaching will
be during Saturday mornings when Program 4 is run, see
Season Calendar and maybe
before Saturday competition and or on a week night, all of which
are yet to be confirmed. At this time we will teach the
technical skills and race regulations to the athletes.
Parents:
Please note that during these Championship events, duties are
assigned to us by the organising body and are largely determined
by the number of participating athletes. We must emphasise
that ALL parents will be required to do duty on the day.
These are usually rostered and usually done in shifts. No
prior experience is required and include things like
Marshalling, Change Box Judge, Timekeeping, Communications or
results runner, Equipment set up and pack up.
This event will be run as per
the strict competition regulations as set by Victorian Little
Athletics Association it is important to note the following
points.
Uniform:
All runners must wear a Brighton Centre competition top and
navy shorts with no logo, or a logo small enough to be
covered by a 3x3 cm square. Shorts with no logo are
best. Athletes not in correct uniform will not be
allowed to compete.
Footwear:
U12-U15 only may wear spikes and there are specific rules
associated with the use of them. If you are intending to use
please clarify these rules by checking with me or the
VLAA website. U9-U11 must not wear spikes but may
wear runners or track shoes with rubber "spikes".
Please consider representing
Brighton at these up and coming events as it does give you the
only opportunity to compete as a team in what is otherwise an
individual sport.
