The Dick Reynolds Club

Not only was Dick a champion footballer, winning three Brownlow medals, but his involvement with the Essendon Football Club over three decades laid the foundation for Essendon to become one of the most successful and powerful clubs in the competition.

Dick joined the club in 1933 when Essendon was in the doldrums, and led Essendon's struggle to climb the VFL ladder. After becoming Captain/Coach in 1940 he steered the Bombers to ten grand final appearances from 1941 to 1951, winning 4 premierships.

Dick proudly earned the title "King Richard" as a result of his efforts at the club in this era. Historian Professor Blainey wrote that "Dick's fairness, modesty and sense of proportion won him the esteem of people for whom football itself meant nothing"....Long Live the King.

Functions

The Dick Reynolds Club will have at least three luncheons conducted during each football season. The next luncheon is to be held on Wednesday August 9 which will be immediately prior to the Club's match against Collingwood the following Saturday. And as part of the 1995 finals program, the Dick Reynolds Club will meet agian on Wednesday September 20, Preliminary fianl week.

Our club functions will be held in the Ryder Room on Level 2 of the Great Southern Stand, with guest speaker details to be announced in due course. Current Bomber champion Paul Salmon has agreed to host the functions conducted by the Dick Reynolds club.
