Centre-Half Back |
Mark Harvey has made his name in recent times as one of the best centre-half backs in the league. His experience shows as every game he directs traffic out of defense. He takes everything so calmly, as though he's got minutes to decide what to do - other players would just crumble. Injury has been unkind to Mark, and he missed much of 1995 and 1994 with ankle problems. But in 1996 he played nearly every game, and showed some great form again in defence. You can really see the difference in team play when Harvey's presence is felt on the backline, and with his ferocious attack at the footy, the opposition feels his presence too. He has played in Essendon's last three premierships, 1984, 1985 and 1993, and ironically his major role in the first two were as a forward, kicking 4 goals in the 1985 win.
