Dustin Fletcher joined the Dons in the 1993 premiership year and rose to fame immediately. At the time, he was still studying year 12 VCE! He received not only the Essendon Best First Year Player, but the AFL Player's Association Best First Year Player. He quickly became an integral part of the Essendon backline, fitting into the role of full back. It is not often that you see a 17 year old taking on some of the biggest full-forward names in the league - and winning. He was just one of the great things that came out of 1993. In 1995 he was selected in the Victorian state squad, but unfortunately not picked to play. In 1996 Dustin moved up the ground on regular occasions, showing that he could kick goals as well. He is really only at the beginning of his career, and hopefully like his father Ken, it will be a long and prosperous one with the Dons.
