Comment:
Our historic first game against the Dockers was almost a disaster - they (the Dockers) played really well! I guess it was to be expected that for their first home game they would be fired up, and after playing quite well against Richmond the week before, they were certainly no easy-beats. At quarter time they went in with a small lead, but from that point on it seemed like the Dons were just good enough to stay a few goals ahead. When it seemed like the game was all over the last quarter, The Dockers came alive. They kicked goals while we kicked points, and the lead was diminishing. In the end it came right down to the last kick to seal it for the Dons, with Bewick goaling in the dying minutes to give Essendon a 9 point victory. This game showed that there was a lot of promise for the Dockers, and they would do quite well in their first year in the AFL. James Hird was outstanding, and Bewick played a good game in front of his home crowd.
Mercuri continued on his good form and picked up numerous possessions.
Standing after Round 2:
We couldn't hold onto top spot, due to the fact that Carlton got to play Fitzroy this week (and yes, they thrashed them like we did, oh the woe at Fitzroy). We stand in second place on percentage, but at this stage of the year, the ladder doesn't mean much. The ladder is as follows:

Next Week:
We take on Melbourne in our first home game for the year...ahhh...back to the Mighty MCG. Melbourne are winless at this stage, but haven't played all that badly. They were unlucky to lose against North Melbourne this round, and we should be in for a good game. But as usual, the Bombers to win.
