Comment:

Well, what a start to the season, we couldn't have asked for more really. I think most people would agree that the highlight of the game (apart from Fitzroy being scoreless at half-time) was the return of Michael Long. There is no way that you could have picked that he missed the entire season last year, his form was brilliant. Of course my favorite player, Jimmy Hird, put in a great performance and pulled down a screamer of a mark too. Bewick's four goals also helped the team along to a terrific victory.

Well, what can you say about Fitzroy? I think it's only a matter of time....(i will abstain from editorialising here :-)) Anyway, it was the perfect start to the season, giving players who had come back from all sorts of operations over the summer a chance to strike form before we hit any real opposition. It also gave us a mammoth percentage to start the year off with - one concern we had at the game was that we wouldn't have a percentage due to the fact that Fitzroy hadn't scored up until the third quarter, oh well.

Next Week:

We take on Fremantle over there for their first ever home game. The unknown quantity may be a factor here, but I feel confident that the Bombers will triumph again.
