The highlight of Gavin Wanganeen's career came in 1993. Not only did we win the flag in that year, but he took out the individual honour of the Brownlow Medal. Since coming to Essendon from Adelaide in 1991, he has made quite an impact. He won the Best First Year player award in that year, in 1992 he was runner-up in the Best and Fairest, and he represented South Australia and was named in the All-Australian team in 1992 and 1993. Those are some achievements for a guy who has only been with the club for four years! His spectacular marking ability and cunning, even cheeky play off the back-line has thrilled many people over these years. For a back-pocket he certainly is dynamic, and many people argue that he should be played up the ground, where his amazing play will result directly in goals. Either way, he has certainly helped Essendon achieve success in his time at the club, and I'm certain he will continue to do so in the future.
