Book Clinic/Show and Tell, at next meeting May 28th, Tuesday , 7-9pm RMIT Dawson Street, Brunswick. 

Bring a book along for some assessments and opinions on Storage, Repairs or anything you would like to share with everyone else.. Maybe you have made a new type of press or have invented some sort of new useful tool.. Its a night of sharing so bring it all along to show us your interesting things!!

 

Post AGM Buy Swap Sell Evening, Tuesday July 23rd

Do you have endless excess bookbinding paraphernalia lying around gathering dust?? 

A once a year chance to air your bindery of unwanted clutter. Gather up all your unwanted paper, leather, tools, sundries and anything bookbinding for our buy swap sell evening!! Bring them along on Tuesday July 23rd, following the AGM, for a buy, swap or sell evening. We will have tables set up around the edge of the room for you to display and sell from. Please make sure items are clearly labelled with any relevant details and price.

 RMIT SHORT COURSES BOOKBINDING Semester 2

Bookbindng Intermediate starting 9th July 2013

 

Overview

This course complements Bookbinding-Introduction. In this course participants will undertake one major project for the duration of the course to consolidate existing skills and learn new methods. The project is complex in nature and covers a range of high-level techniques, all of which can be applied to other book binding projects. In this course students will be making a Full Leather English Binding. The book will be full bound in goat leather,with sewn on endbands, sewn on tapes , laced on boards.

Students who have a strong interest in bookbinding who wish to advance their knowledge.

 

Bookbinding Introduction starting 31st July 2013

Overview

Participants undertake practical exercises in bookbinding and finishing. Course is designed for people interested in the introductory aspects of bookbinding, book restoration and gold blocking. Participants will undertake practical exercises in bookbinding and finishing in a fully equipped bindery with experienced staff. Students complete progressive projects of increasing difficulty from stationery up to leather bound books and raised band styles. Students complete a minimum of three hand bound books. Tools and equipment in the bindery is available to use as needed for projects.

Book Repair and Restoration starting 1st August 2013

Overview

In this course participants will undertake practical exercises in bookbinding and finishing on an intermediate to advanced level depending on ability. Bookbinding and Restoration is a continuation of Bookbinding - Introduction and will introduce and demonstrate a number of common restoration techniques for those students who have moved from the introductory course (or similar) and require specific instruction. Students work on their own projects under supervision and direction of experienced staff. Tools and equipment in the bindery is available to use as needed for projects.
