We are a group of friendly people who are interested in the ancient art of Bonsai. The Society has a proud record of promoting Bonsai on the Mornington Peninsula Victoria Australia.
We met regularly for meetings, demonstrations and workshops for the purpose of improving our skills and our bonsai.
We also provide assistance to other Clubs and Societies by conducting displays, demonstrations and talks at garden clubs, schools and other similar organisations.
People who are interested in Bonsai or who would like to learn more about growing Bonsai are most welcome to join our society.
The Society was founded at a meeting in November 1979 through the efforts of Ross Lloyd. The first meeting was held in January 1980 with 25 members attending.
For many years Ross tutored society members in the skills required to turn a tree into a Bonsai. He had a large collection of trees which he freely gave to Society members. When Ross was unable to continue to care for his trees most were obtained by Society members and many still feature in our activities.
Ross is remembered with a annual award to a Society member. The A. R. (Ross) Lloyd Encouragement Award.
Our Society is a member of the following organisations:
Australian Associated Bonsai Clubs AABC Bonsai Federation of Australia BFA (Southern Chapter) Royal Horticultural Society of Victoria RHSV
