"Meet you at midnight," she heard him say
He pulled down his shades and drove away
All day in school there was a lump in her throat
She wouldn't remember a word she wrote
She ate no dinner went early to bed
Feeding only on the thoughts in her head
And when the time came to sneak out the door
Her heart was pounding like never before
She grabbed a taxi and headed for town
And planned to meet him at the Underground
Down at the corner they picked up Nadine
Who made it out too without being seen
They got to the disco talked their way inside
Stood in the corner with their eyes open wide
They never saw the boy she went there to meet
He'd found someone else and moved up the street
They spent the night walking around
Taking in sights and soaking up sound
They talked to someone who knew someone they knew
Maybe next time he'd remember them too
She came home as dawn took over the night
And saw the world in a different light
By sneaking out when the moon was high
She had spread her wings and was learning to fly
