ERSKINE FALLS REMEMBERED (21Apr95 3.57am, Melbourne, Australia)

In the car
It is not far
To the Erskine Falls just north of Lorne
The track is steep -
But to that gorge deep
Each time I'm near to these falls I'm drawn

The trees grow straight
As they welcoming wait
While past them we slowly drive
Then the stairs we descend
To our journey's end
To a place that is Oh so alive

Logs covered in moss
On rocks we can cross
The stream where it bubbles along
While to the left side
A tumbling tide
Sings a calm and a meditative song

In the moist air
Tree ferns are found there
And safe pools where no-one can drown
But we don't stay there long
Half an hour and we're gone
Back down to the holiday town

Next day back at home
On my bed, quite alone,
My mind is being pulled away
To that paradise green
And that water so clean
In the gorge where we went yesterday

I live in the city -
Perhaps it's a pity -
To go to country's a treat
But if life in the town
Is getting me down
My thoughts to this spot can retreat

Grateful that such a place can be
And just two to three hours drive for me
