Taking Part in Open-mike Venues
Since around 1989, with varying degrees of intensity over the years,
I have been going to open-mike venues around Melbourne's inner city
And reading some of my work.
These days - 2005 - the only one I go to - and not very often -
Is the Saturday afternoon session at the Dan O'Connell Hotel
In the suburb of Carlton.
But in my time, I used to go to the Perseverance Hotel,
And before that the Rochester Castle,
And Carlton Contact - a group that met in a Neighbourhood House.
Although too small to need a mike, (as was Carlton Contact)
Coreys Cafe in the mid nineties was my most intense period
Of performing my poetry.
Coreys Cafe and the "Salvaged from Coreys" magazine
I acquired some fame in the suburbs of Middle Park and Albert Park
Where I once lived and used to sell the Poetry magazine
"Salvaged from Coreys" door to door.
The number of copies printed varied from 150 to 75.
There were a total of 12 issues spread over three years.
I also ran the weekly Friday night readings at what was known
As Coreys Cafe.
I also appeared 9 times in 1995 on a Community Radio station
promoting the magazine - the station was Southern FM
In the suburb of Moorabbin.
The Chapbook "Be Meditated"
I printed 50 copies of my chapbook "Be Meditated".
To promote it, I paid for an insert to "Write On',
the newsletter of the Victorian Writers' Centre.
The insert featured 2 poems from the book.
Over 2000 copies of the insert were printed.
The Black Hole Press web-site on Vicnet
Some time around 1997, "Be Meditated" and the last two issues
of "Salvaged from Coreys" were placed on my web-site.
"The Golden Mouth" parish magazine
More recently (2004, 2005) I have acquired some poetic fame
In my local Anglican Church in the suburb of West Brunswick
Whose parish magazine "The Golden Mouth" has printed some of my work.
I would guess that around 100 copies are printed.
